A survey of over 2500 AVMA members confirmed what many AVMA members suspected. Veterinarians desire and support the concept of a strong national organization to represent them. However, a large majority of AVMA members responding to the survey reported that they did not feel that the AVMA understood the issues that were important to them or their practice.

1Member1Vote.org is a grassroots movement by AVMA members seeking policy and procedural changes that give members more voice in selecting AVMA staff and leaders, and greater influence over the decisions they make.

Through 1Member1Vote.org, AVMA members are joining together to build a BETTER AVMA. 

Together we can convince the leadership and staff of AVMA that: 

• Veterinarians/AVMA members desire and support the concept of a strong national organization to represent them.
• AVMA members do not currently believe AVMA understands the issues that are important to us or our practices.

1Member1Vote.org is a grassroots movement by AVMA members to convince AVMA staff and leadership that in today's age of instant communication, AVMA can easily evolve into an organization that effectively communicates with their members and, more importantly, makes decisions that represent the values and belief of the majority of their membership and not the beliefs and agenda of a few who have endured the arduous path to power within the AVMA oligarchy.

1Member1Vote.org respects and appreciates all the hard work and dedication exerted by the many well-meaning AVMA staff and volunteers who make the organization operate day to day and year to year.

However, these individuals do not hold the reins of power or provide overall direction for the organization.  This lies within the hands of a few well-meaning individuals who, for whatever reason, seem entrenched in a bureaucracy that is out of step with most AVMA members.

Change happens slowly and needs to begin with you and all AVMA members.  Showing your support for 1Member1Vote will stimulate discussion among colleagues nationwide and politely communicate to the AVMA leadership that you and all AVMA members want to be heard by and have a voice in our AVMA, building a better future for our profession -- together.
